Who We Are. In 2008, when a homeless man died in Middletown because of the cold, the Greater Middletown Interfaith Council started its community Warming Station. For 12 seasons St. Paul’s United Methodist Church hosted the Warming Station, until Covid-19 required moving it to a new, more spacious location. St. Paul’s members remain an integral part of the management of this vital service to our community. The Warming Station is managed by a manager, staff members and community volunteers who work each night during the season from 8pm-8am, serving some of our community’s vulnerable members. Volunteers also bring a hot meal for our 30 guests each night.
How We Serve. The Warming Station provides a warm space, hot meal, coffee, and a safe place to sleep seven nights a week for those who would otherwise be trying to survive on the streets of our city during the coldest months. We’re able to house 30 men & women over the age of 18. Overnight volunteers sleep in a separate room at the Warming Station. Check in starts at 9pm, with lights out at 10 PM. At 6AM it’s wake-up time, and all guests must leave by 7am. Each morning, staff and volunteers clean and sanitize the Warming Station to prepare it for the next night. We hold multiple Volunteer Training for members of the community who wish to help & support the Warming Station. Supplies are donated by community members and purchased with money raised by the Greater Middletown Interfaith Council fundraisers.
